Unlike other cities such as in the USA there is no grid system anywhere in London. Driving from one place to the next can be very complicated if you don't already know the routes. Therefore if you are going to be doing any driving in London it is recommended you invest in a GPS navigation system that will tell you where you are and how to get to your destination. If you want to drive into the very centre of London you may have to pay the congestion charge. This is a daily fee for using your car within the city. A network of cameras monitor cars coming into and out of the congestion charging zone and they take snapshots of your number plate and relay this back to a central office which cross checks to see if you've paid for driving in London for that day. If you haven't paid by the end of the day you are automatically issued with a fine.
Public Transport
The London Underground Tube Train & Bus Network London is home to the oldest and biggest underground train network in the world. When it's working the London underground is perhaps the easiest and fastest way to get around London. The underground currently closes for cleaning and repair work every night from around midnight. By 12:30 there's usually no more trains and you then have to rely on the network of night buses to get you home. Oyster Cards The Oyster card has recently been introduced in London. It is an electronic payment card that is used to pay for travel on trains and buses within London. It costs about £3 and once you have one you can top it up with credit at special machines at the trains stops using a credit or debit card. I you will be travelling in London for several days you may find it saves you money as London Transport now charges less for journeys on an Oyster Card rather then on a paper ticket.
Airlines & Airports in London
Despite what many adverts tell you there is only one true London airport. This is London city airport. A very small airport in the Docklands area which generally only caters to business travellers. Thus flights to and from London city airport are generally very expensive business class tickets. The nearest major airports surrounding London are Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton & Stanstead airport. Heathrow is the busiest international airport in the world, with 4 terminals and a 5th one currently being built. The remaining 3 are smaller but are home to many of the UK's major tour operators and low cost airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet. All of these airports can be reached by a combination of taxi, minicabs, coaches, buses, trains and tube trains.
Dating in London
London has one of the highest percentage of singles in the entire UK. There are hundreds of thousands of people in London looking for that special someone, and yet it's probably one of the hardest place in the world to meet people.
